Welcome To Al's Pages Very funny John West advert bear3.mpg What if major retailers started making their own condoms but kept the same tag lines.... This page is best viewed as big as you can get it !! (well 1024x768 or better, 800x600 will do in a pinch !) If you find some things don't work, it's because I'm working on the site
I decided it was time for another overhaul so there's not too much here yet and it's all text stuff at the moment.
I've removed the frames and altered the menus.
New
Lap speed calculator (and an enhanced version for Lap and Race speeds as well), useful not only for what I originally wrote them for (speeds for motorsport events), but for any time you want to know how fast you went over a given distanceSee the Utils page for more info Utils page, contains the Shutdown/Reboot utils and a new monitor power off util (your basic power saving feature) A few Java Applets, just for fun. (I make no promises about them working with anything other than Suns JRE) (They will come up in a new window, note some browsers may block the use of Java Applets, including XP with SP2, so you will need to allow it to run) Sources are available on each page, If you make use of the source, please give me some credit. If they don't work, then try getting the Sun Java plugin A minor point of interest with these is if you are running on windows and find that they don't run at around 50 fps, you may have one of the HALs with a 15ms tick rate for the system timer rather than the more common 10 (you'll find the frame rate is then around 32fps - the applets use a 20ms sleep to set the rough rate of update, but with a 15ms tick rate this actually comes out to around 30ms as the first interrupt to occur would be too early and the next is around 10ms late)
Way old stuff..... I'll keep this simple for now. I don't intend to spend too much time here as I would rather spend the time on doing something more constructive. If you are after the linux glX version of Quake its here -> It has been compiled on Red Hat 6.1 with glibc using Mesa 3.0. Just put it into your quake directory and fire it up. Hope it runs alright for everyone, have fun. Note:I will one day get round to sorting out the XFree86 4.x version (at the moment differences in the input make the current code work only as a screen saver !!) I have been considering the possibility of doing something major with this and looking at possibly a version based around SDL. The main problem at the moment is lack of time (especially with the Motorcycle GP season and Superbikes going again). Maybe someone would like to pay me a reasonable salary to do it (dreaming again). Relatity check, someone has got there first (how unusual!) see SDL Homepage and look under games for the Quake links.Or have a look at Quakeforge, either way you should end up in the same place! All this is way out of date, unless you have a real need to run XFree86 3.3.5 and want to use it with this (I can't think of ANY reason you would want to when the newer XFree4.x + new nVidia GL/GLX package is much, much, much better) The Nvidia X/GLX Linux X server and GLX package (filesize 1.45M). I suggest you move or copy your original files to "*.orig" before putting these on your system. Make sure your XF86Config file has 'Load "glx.so"' in a section called "Module" and place glx.so in /usr/X11R6/lib/modules, libGL.so.1.0 in /usr/X11R6/lib and XF86_SVGA in /usr/X11R6/bin. To disable hardware rendering "export GLX_NOHW=1" before starting the server, you will have to stop the server, unset GLX_NOHW, and restart to enable HW rendering again. Thats all that's here for now. Allen (*** remove the spam_ from in front of the name and domain, or see the Contact page ***). 11/2004 (ish) Quake and the Quake logo copyright id software.
